Okay, so I think I can write pages about this wedding, this has been one of my favorite ones I shot in recent times. This Couple was a dream to work with, such humble, genuine love they have towards each other and their families. Hear the story from the bride herself below, it is nothing short of a romantic movie………
“Ryan and I met in Amsterdam on 7th August 2015 around 10pm in a bar called Smokeys, he was 2 months into a six month work placement from Melbourne, and I was going to a festival in South Holland on the Saturday with two girlfriends to celebrate leaving my lawyer role in Manchester. This night out was the pre-festival warm up lol.
I think I spotted him before he spotted me. He is over six feet tall after all! He told me he had just completely flunked trying to MC at the DJ booth, but I unfortunately never got to witness this. He did notice me soon after, thank the universe…..
On his approach, he literally picked people up and moved them out of the road, I was still unsure if his eyes were meeting mine until we were up quite close – forgot my glasses I had. Anyways, after we established that he was not winding me up after I revealed that my intentions were to get to Oz, he did have to prove to me that he was not chatting the proverbial that he was from Melbourne, just by way of chat up line, with the full disclosure of a crinkly business card discovered at the back of his well-worn wallet. We literally spent the rest of the night chatting til the pub closed then roamed the streets of Amsterdam until dawn up to Centraal Station (where I was staying and so Ryan could get the 7am train back to Hilversum a village outside the Dam where he was staying – a place I came to know very well). We basically knew most of what anyone could gauge in a lifetime in those first hours we spent together. I pined after him all the next day at the festival and didn’t want to be there to be honest, and the minute I got back to Amsterdam that Saturday night, first thing I did was message the mysterious drunken Englishman who I couldn’t stop thinking about. Hello! I met him once for god’s sake. That’s very unlike me by the way, I have been referred to as a bit of a hard nut to crack….
But Ryan got me good, from the start. He was so warm and gentlemanly (despite being much much more well-oiled than I on the Friday night we met) and we had the most fun night just getting to know each other, I never laughed so hard. I knew immediately he was extremely intelligent, intuitive, sensitive, and loved his Mum and sister and his Dad of course too. But from the way he spoke about the women in his life and his little niece Georgie, I knew he was a good boy.
So the Sunday…..! Erm, I was supposed to return to Manchester to sort out my life, and chose instead to change my flight and haul ass to the Tara Pub (irish Bar in Amsterdam) where Ryan was waiting to see if I had the courage to change all my plans to chance another encounter. I didn’t need to give it much thought to be honest…I didn’t have an office to try and get out of work with and I was basically looking at the loveliest man I had ever laid eyes on! So I stayed for a few more days, and we laughed for days, and he looked after me to the point I would have given up my life to be with him there and then. But we did of course wait a few more months and spent our time going to Ireland to meet my family, and I to England to meet his whilst I stayed with him in Hilversum for the next four months. By the time Ryan was due to return to Melbourne in Jan 2016, we honestly didn’t know what we were going to do. Ryan was due to gain citizenship in seven months’ time, I had my legal career in Manchester and had spent my 20s getting somewhere in that sense. But we knew we had to see one another again soon and so I booked a flight to Melbourne for two weeks after he got back. And I never went back. 16th Jan 2016.
I gave up the three job offers in big law firms in Manchester city, got my flatmate to pack up my gear and post it back to Ireland (giving all else away to whoever could help me offload and stay with Ryan at the other side of the world) and basically wrapped up my life after three weeks on Chelsea Beach with the man that stole my head and my heart. But I know I am in safe hands. And I have never been happier. And he tells me every day how much he appreciates what that decision took and how much he understands what it means J But I don’t, and could never regret a thing, I don’t regret that Ryan got over here with an old flame or that I spent my 20s with a man who I wouldn’t end up with. It got us both to where we are today, together. And I mean every word of that, obviously would downplay it in any references in the ceremony hahaha but I just wanted you to know that aspect. Ryan had been ready to go back to the UK or elsewhere, and found Oz a bit lonely in the years before we met. And I was lonely during those years too, whilst in a miserable relationship. Anyway, everything that happened, happened for a reason. And now we both know what it is to be in a fulfilling, loving, respectful and mutually enjoyable relationship now, without even perhaps having to carve those edges off too harshly as we seem to have made our errors in the past and have, quite frankly, a freaking awesome relationship. Or maybe we were just always gonna be awesome for one another anyway had we met ten years before J I don’t know or care. I just have never in my life been so happy with anyone or felt like this for anyone, he has literally blown my mind!”
And that above is just one-third of their story……:)
